Chemical Peel FAQs

Will my skin peel?

It depends on the peel. Many professional peels cause little visible peeling, just light flaking for a few days. Stronger corrective peels can cause more noticeable peeling for 3–7 days.

How many peels will I need?

Most clients see the best results from a course of 3 peels, spaced 2–4 weeks apart. Concerns such as pigmentation may need a longer programme. We'll confirm your plan at consultation.

Is there any downtime?

With a Bespoke Peel, skin may feel tight or look pink for a day or two. With an Advanced Corrective Peel, plan for a few days of flaking. Avoid make-up for 24 hours, and avoid sun, heat and exfoliating products for about a week.

Are chemical peels suitable for darker skin tones?

Yes, with the right peel. We choose peels suited to your skin type after a proper assessment, including for skin that is prone to pigmentation.

Do I need to prepare my skin?

Sometimes. For pigmentation, we may recommend a few weeks of homecare beforehand to get the best result. You'll usually need to stop retinoids and exfoliating products several days before your peel. We'll advise you at consultation.

Is a chemical peel suitable for everyone?

Peels aren't suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active cold sores, infections, broken skin or recent sunburn, or if you've taken isotretinoin (Roaccutane) in the last 6 months. We check your medical history before every treatment.

Do I need to wear SPF afterwards?

Yes. Daily SPF 50 is essential during and after your course, as freshly resurfaced skin is more sensitive to the sun.
